I'm not sure about the whole split career field thing. I'm too new for that, I guess.

But contracting LE out is a *bad* idea. Here at Offutt our gates are contracted out. Those civvies are real dirtbags. They treat no one with any kind of respect and they bother the hell out of B-DOC. They complain all the time, too. I got reported by one of them because I was tasked with setting up outbound and relieving the gate guard for changeover. I took setting up outbound at priority. He basically bitched me out and reported me to the Flight Chief. My flight chief of course told him to can it. But still man, really?

I know all the people going through the gates love it when we(rarely) run the gate. I remember one time a few weeks ago where I ran a gate for a few hours and I had I don't know how many people go "Are Security Forces running the gates again!?" I would reply "No, sir/ma'am. This is just temporary. The person's response was pretty much the same every time "That's a shame. I love seeing cops at the gate."

I think we should do LE and we should run the gates. i know Offutt has the manning for it. When I got here we had 25 people on flight. Now we have close to 60. We have Alphas for EVERYTHING. Take a few of the External SRT Alphas away and let them run a gate. Let the contracters sit over-watch.

I just know that in Tech School the instructors always told us "You must look sharp because you are the first and last USAF member seen on a base." It seems like we should run the gate because it just fits, ya know?

I think *that* would be beneficial for the Air Force.

I served as a LE Security Police (Forces) member for 4 years. I have been out of the AF for about 10 years now. I was a police officer for 4 years after I left active duty and I've been a state trooper for the last 5 years.

I remember when I was on active duty and they changed the career field's name to Security Forces from Security Police. There was a lot of discontent. I knew I was nearing my discharge date so it wasn't a big issue with me, my goal was to get into civilian law enforcement.

After reading some of the posts on here, if I understand you guys correctly the AF is contracting out all of its LE functions to DOD police?? You got to be kidding me!!! In my opinion that is the biggest mistake the AF can make. DOD policing military folks on a military base is not good. I remember while being stationed at McGuire AFB, watching neighboring Ft. Dix army base transition over o DOD police from MPs. The DOD guys were a joke!!! They were unprofessional, sloppy and all of them had chips on their shoulders because they thought they were better than everybody else. I clearly remember one of them trying to come to through one of our gates off-duty drunk, and he was supposedly a former Marine, before joining the DOD Police! Man, the AF is going to be in a world of trouble letting those guys protect you...

Here I was thinking about getting back in via the reserve IMA program and drilling with an active SF squadron.....I guess I will have to reconsider that thought!

To all of you guys and gals currently serving, I want to thank all of you for what you do! Keep up the good work and as my old flight sgt you to say after every guard mount, "Hey!....Lets be safe out there."
